The evidence supports a more precise statement:
A repeated GPF blockage pattern is well documented among some China-market Tayron 330TSI vehicles from this period, especially around the 2020–2021 production window. Volkswagen responded with a software-and-hardware service action, yet later complaints show that GPF-related problems did not disappear from every vehicle.
That distinction matters for anyone considering a used Tayron exported from China.
Which Tayron are we talking about?
The exact 2020 Tayron 330TSI Luxury Smart configuration in Chinese vehicle data uses the DPL 2.0T engine, rated at 186 hp and 320 Nm. A precise 2022 330TSI two-wheel-drive Luxury Smart configuration is also listed with DPL. 懂车帝[1]
This does not mean every Tayron built between those dates has identical software, exhaust hardware or calibration.
Production date matters.
That became especially clear when FAW-Volkswagen introduced a dedicated GPF upgrade program.
What owners actually reported
The most common reports were remarkably consistent.
Owners described combinations of:
- unusually high fuel consumption;
- elevated engine speed;
- later or abnormal shifting;
- reduced power;
- stop-start becoming unavailable;
- noticeable heat or smell during regeneration.

Production date matters more than “2021 model”
A listing may simply say:
2021 Volkswagen Tayron 330TSI.
That is not enough to tell you which GPF strategy the vehicle originally received.
According to the reported FAW-Volkswagen service action, 26 September 2021 is a meaningful production breakpoint: vehicles after that point were already built with the updated software and revised heat-protection solution. 汽车之家[3]
So for a used China-market vehicle, the useful question is not only:
What model year is it?
It is also:
What is the actual production date, and was the applicable GPF update performed?
Did the update completely eliminate the problem?
The available evidence does not support saying that.
There are later reports involving vehicles outside the earliest complaint period.
